Synopsis:
Ray
Monroe (Sam Worthington) is on the way home with his wife, Joanne (Lily Rabe),
and their child, Peri (Lucy Capri). An argument occurs between them due to the
tension that occurred at Joanne's house earlier. In addition, Ray driving his
vehicle slowly makes other road users feel disturbed.
They
stop at the Rest Area because Peri has to go to the bathroom. However, when
Joanne is returning to the bathroom to look for Peri's toy, Peri, who is paying
attention to a balloon, is suddenly attacked by a dog. She falls into the
construction site after being surprised by her father's rock throw. Ray also
falls into the construction.
After
trying to calm down, Ray and Joanne finally take Peri to the nearest hospital.
They have to wait long enough before finally being served by the hospital. Ray
feels that there is something odd at the hospital, including the gestures of
the officers, but he chooses to ignore it.
The
examination is carried out. The doctor suggests that Peri have a scan on her
head, worried about bleeding. Joanne accompanies Peri to have the examination
and Ray waits for them in the waiting room. After some time, Joanne and Peri
have not returned. Ray tries to confirm this with the hospital.
Ray
gets shocking information where the hospital does not have data regarding Peri
and his wife. This makes Ray panic and try to find their whereabouts. A
commotion occurs and Ray feels that the hospital has done something suspicious
to them.
Will
Ray be able to find them again?
Review:
Fractured
is a film with the psychological thriller genre. This film has a quite
interesting idea for the genre. Coupled with interesting twist ideas as well.
Unfortunately, the execution of the film has not been carried out optimally.
There are still many things that can be explored in more depth to provide a
more stunning presentation.
First,
let's discuss the background construction, both the background of the story and
the characters. The character's background is presented quite well. The
audience will be introduced to the main character and his character through
dialogue and the way they behave. We will also see how the relationship between
the two main characters, in this case Ray and his wife, is.
Their
not-so-good relationship becomes the background of this story. The accident
experienced by their child makes Ray seem to realize the mistakes he has made
so far. So we will see a change in Ray's character who tries to save his child
and repair his relationship with his wife. It can be seen with him taking the
risk of driving at high speed, taking the initiative, and becoming a more
reliable person.
Furthermore,
conflicts begin to arise when he wakes up in the waiting room and finds that
his wife and child have not yet returned from the examination. Coupled with all
the hospital staff who have changed shifts, making it difficult for him to make
a confirmation. In this conflict, there are actually a few things that are a
little less logical when viewed from a professional point of view, but these
things sometimes happen in the real world. As an example of the poor working
system in some hospitals and the bad employees there. Not all, but only some.
Including the bad police
After
several conflicts and tensions that arise, both from the external and internal
of the main character. The audience will be taken to the completion of the
story which can actually be optimized again. Twist after twist begins to be
revealed. Unfortunately, most of these disclosures are only presented in the
form of narration, dialogue, or less satisfying visuals. Many things are still
lacking to answer many questions or mysteries that are presented.
Visualization
is an important thing in a film. Where, the audience needs to get a fairly
logical explanation with the mystery they are watching. In some scenes, the
'reality' that actually happened is shown. However, this reality only covers
some of the last scenes of the film where Ray tries to save his wife from the
ground floor. While other mysteries experienced from the beginning of the film
to the middle are not explained clearly.
Maybe
it would be better if a brief flashback scene was presented showing the actual
'reality' that happened. Including the mystery where he could put the bodies of
his wife and child in the trunk neatly. Because if included in logic, it is a
little less logical. Hehe.
Sam
Worthington's acting as the main character is quite good, where he can show the
emotions of the character quite well. Unfortunately, for some reason, the
acting of other supporting players is a little disturbing and less natural. It
seems too exaggerated and artificial. Whether it's because the character seems
less logical or because the acting is less than optimal.
The
cinematography is quite good, the audience can see various details that are
indeed important and needed. The selection of music and sound effects is also
quite appropriate to the scene presented. The mood and vibe are built as
expected.
Overall,
this film is still quite interesting to watch even though there are still many
gaps that can be improved and optimized again.
Memorable scene:
While
at the scene, Jacob tries to confirm Ray's memory but by giving new memories
that corner him. This makes Ray a little doubtful of his own memory. Until he
finally finds evidence of the truth of his memory.
In
life, people often instill things into our minds and not a few of them end up
influencing us. Psychologically, when we actually do the right thing, but most
people say we are doing the wrong thing. Then unconsciously our brain rethinks
what is right and wrong. So we must be careful if we want to listen to other
people's words, don't waver if you are sure that what you are taking is right.
Memorable dialogue:
"The mind can sometimes create an alternate reality"
Ending:
Cliffhanger
Recommendation:
Worth
to Watch
