Synopsis:
Tom
and Jerry live with Dorothy on a farm in Kansas. Even though they're constantly
fighting, they share the same goal: protecting Dorothy, just as Aunt Em asked
them to do. Besides Tom and Jerry, Dorothy also has a lovable little dog named
Toto.
One
day, Toto accidentally bites Dorothy's neighbor, Almira. Furious, Almira
threatens to take Toto away from the farm. Dorothy does everything she can to
protect Toto, while Tom and Jerry try every possible way to rescue him from
Almira.
After
the chaos settles, a massive tornado arrives and carries them to the Land of
Oz. After being separated for a while, Tom and Jerry finally reunite with
Dorothy and Toto. Together with the new friends they meet along the way, they
set out to find the Wizard of Oz in hopes of returning to Kansas.
Will
they be able to return to the place that has always felt like home?
Review:
Tom
and Jerry are one of the most iconic cartoon duos, famous for their endless
rivalry. In Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz, they're brought into
the legendary story of The Wizard of Oz (1939), which was adapted from
L. Frank Baum's novel. Although the main storyline still closely follows the
original, Tom and Jerry add a slightly different flavor, even if their role
never feels truly dominant.
The
story is built quite well. The main characters are introduced clearly, from
Dorothy and Almira to Tom and Jerry's role in protecting Dorothy. The tornado
that transports them to the Land of Oz serves as a natural transition into a
new adventure. Along the way, other important characters are introduced, and
each character's goal is explained clearly, making the story easy to follow.
Most
of the conflict comes from the challenges Dorothy and her friends face
throughout their journey to find the Wizard of Oz. Various obstacles and small
battles keep the story moving, while Tom and Jerry occasionally provide
entertaining comedic relief. Unfortunately, these conflicts function more as
adventure-driven moments than emotionally engaging ones, so the tension never
feels particularly strong.
The
ending unfolds just as expected and stays faithful to the classic version. It
doesn't offer many surprises or major changes, but the conclusion still feels
neat and satisfying for viewers who simply want to revisit the story of The
Wizard of Oz.
The
film's biggest strength lies in its visuals. The classic Tom and Jerry
animation style is beautifully preserved, complemented by bright colors and the
imaginative world of Oz. Together, they create a nostalgic atmosphere without
making the animation feel outdated. The appearance of many iconic Oz characters
also enriches the viewing experience.
Unfortunately,
the film doesn't fully take advantage of its greatest potential. Tom and Jerry
often feel like supporting characters repeating their signature chase sequences
without significantly affecting the story itself. The emotional moments also
feel rather flat, while the action scenes aren't intense enough to leave a
lasting impression. As a result, the film feels more like an adaptation of The
Wizard of Oz featuring Tom and Jerry, rather than a true crossover that
fully combines the strengths of both franchises.
Overall,
Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz remains a lighthearted and
entertaining family film, especially for viewers who enjoy both franchises. It
successfully delivers a nostalgic experience through its animation and the
timeless classic story that many people already know. However, for viewers
hoping Tom and Jerry would play a much bigger role in changing the course of
the story, this film may feel a little underwhelming. Even so, the combination
of these two iconic worlds still makes for a warm, simple adventure filled with
nostalgia.
Most Memorable Scene:
Whenever
Tom finds himself in a dangerous situation, he's always overwhelmed by fear.
But as much as he wants to run away, he wants to save Dorothy just as much.
Thanks to Jerry's encouragement and unwavering support by his side, Tom keeps
finding the courage to fight again.
Fear
often makes people want to step back and run away from the problems they're
facing. But having someone who helps us keep going plays an incredibly
important role. Not only through words, but also through actions that remind us
we don't have to face everything alone. It's this kind of support that often
gives us the courage to keep moving forward, even when the fear is still there.
